Upcycling

My move into upcycling was a natural progression. Originally, I was rusting my metallic pieces with filtered water. Then, after I had successfully found a way to make the pieces frost-proof, I simply stood them outside. It was a real eye-opener seeing the effect of rain on these external pieces – the pollution in the rain caused different and (in my opinion) gorgeous effects. It felt as if the ugly and destructive was being altered in to something beautiful and timeless.

I then began to upcycle pieces, such as mirrors, frames and planters for the garden, from discarded items. I’ve had particular success adding a thin metal veneer to polystyrene to make extraordinarily light garden planters: over 300,000 tonnes of waste polystyrene is buried in UK landfills each year so it’s good to upcycle such packaging.

Light-weight planter. Sold. Similar pieces available from £170.

The items shown here are current stock and are constantly changing. I’ve also just taken delivery of some items of furniture (small tables, frames) which King’s College, Cambridge, was throwing away. This will be available shortly. Again, they will fit well with any ‘industrial chic’ or ‘rustic minimalist’ interior.
